Where Biomedical Communication becomes Visual Stories

Communication is at the heart of scientific advancement.

Effective communication and public understanding of science are the foundations to establishing trust and funding for scientific advancement.

Science communication occurs beyond the classroom or while addressing a general audience.

As scientists, we communicate science when we propose our ideas to funding agencies, pitch our work to potential collaborators, present our findings at conferences, and compile our scientific stories for publication.

Funding and investment in scientific advancement lie in the overlap between the ideas you want to pursue and convey and your audience’s understanding. In other words, investment and interest in fundamental sciences dwindle when we live in a society where foundational scientific topics are foreign and seem irrelevant. We need to change that.

In the Informational Age, as knowledge of scientific minutiae increases, true understanding becomes siloed in specialized niches, making communication challenging between fields and across background levels.

Visual and experiential mediums can be effective, and in cases essential, for bridging the divide in communicating complex topics and ideas, to inspire curiosity, enhance accessibility, and enable implementation.

The bottleneck to effective science communication stems from scarcity of resources for bringing these ideas to life.

A sustainable method is needed for biomedical researchers, communicators, and educators to disseminate scientific knowledge broadly and accurately.  My mission is to help subject matter experts refine and realize their visual communication needs, by building bespoke illustrations and animations focused on their message, and optimized to their audience.

Meet Cliu

My name is Beiyun Caitlin Liu, PhD, and I am an immunologist turned bio-animator. I work across 2D and 3D animation, illustration, and video production to support communication needs of biomedical researchers, communicators, and educators.

Whether you are looking to showcase your findings to field experts, communicate concepts to the public, or create curriculum for the classroom, I am here to help realize your vision by providing science visualization products and acting as a thought partner for effective storytelling.

My biomedical research background positions me to understand scientific detail, while my attention to story and composition guides a craftsman mindset to optimize for audience reach and reception.

Let’s work together!

To work with me, simply email Beiyun@cliubioanimation.studio with the following information:

  1. Your name, email contact, and timezone

  2. Brief project description

  3. Relevant supporting material to help me better understand your vision - these can be project drafts, research papers, sample visuals, etc.

I generally respond within 2 business days with follow-up questions and to set up a virtual meeting to discuss project details.

My timezone is UTC-5.

Pricing

My goal is to provide high quality biomedical visualization at a sustainable price.

I work with each partner to find a mutually agreeable price that is appropriate to the scope of the project.

Looking forward to connecting!
